I love french villages

Feeling like we needed to explore outside of Lyon again, we rented a car today and for the rest of the weekend.  The kids only has school two days this week, as there were yet another two french holidays this week.  One our last road trip we drove through a medieval town and thought we would like to explore there again.  The name of the village was Cremieu and it is really charming.  Lots of castles and forts!

"Hotel de Ville"- city hall

I just love the really old buildings and tiny windows.  I noticed a lot the top floors are unfinished or have never been restored.

Beginning of the walk up the castle

The walk up to the top of the hill was really steep.

View of the city below

Liliacs are in bloom and smelled wonderful!

In order to get the kids to walk up the big hill to view the castle ( which in the end really wasn't a castle but an old fort from the 15th century- still beautiful and scenic) we bribed with treats and stopped at a patisserie  prior to the walk back to the car.  This place had wonderful things and the owner was really nice.  He was impressed with our attempt at french and decided to practice his english.  He told us his daughter just started school in Iowa this school year (sure different compared to this village).

Covered market place- wish we had been there when there was a market.

Dijon mustard??

My french dream home!!

We attempted to drive up to this castle at least 3 times, but in the end we think it was a private home despite several signs for the chateau.  It was pretty incredible.
On our drive home these sycamore trees lined the road for several  miles.
